POLICE have made 25 arrests from the 46 serious crime cases reported since January in Port Moresby.
National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N’dranou, pictured, said investigations into serious crimes after took a month before an arrest was made.
The crimes reported included car thefts, armed robbery, murder and violence against persons.
N’dranou was happy with how police were investigating cases.
“This is the best performance I can say for the police for a long time, and that is the effort we have been advocating our officers to do this year” he said.
N’dranou said police bail had decreased from K500 to K300 to deal quickly with minor cases and remove offenders from the cell so that new arrests can be accommodated.
“I am reducing the bail fee because of the cell capacity that cannot cater for the increasing number of people inside,” he said.
N’dranou said they did not have enough resources but they were coping well.
He said of the 51 traffic accidents in March, 50 arrests had been made.
