FOUR men in their 20s were arrested and charged with injuring a man with a spear gun in Manus on Jan 8.
Garry Sipose was shot in the chest by one of the four armed with bush knives and iron rods in Nihon Island between 11am and noon.
Manus Police Commander Chief Insp David Yapu told The National in Kokopo in a telephone interview yesterday that all four suspects were from Nihon Island in Lorengau’s Bisakani Soperibeu.
Yapu identified the suspects as Danny Eddie, 21, Samuel Bill, 31, Jeromie Sapak, 22, and Sapak Bernard James 26. According to police investigations, Eddie was allegedly armed with the spear gun and all the assailants fled upon seeing Sipose collapsing and unconscious. “The community of Nihon helped send Sipose to a nearby Health Centre in Lessau and was later transferred to the Lorengau General Hospital.
“Due to bad weather conditions with strong winds and rough seas, police could not attend to the matter quickly. All four suspects were then picked up in Nihon on March 14 and remanded,” Yapu said. Police have also picked up a third suspect in the murder of Gabriel Kirah in North Coast’s Derembat Manus, on Dec 30, 2011.
The suspect was identified as Menei Keltun, 30. Two other suspects nabbed earlier were charged in the Lorengau District Court on March 20 and are in police custody.
