A TEAM comprising officers from the police, military, Customs and Health is patrolling the border in Western after reports that people are coming through from Australia and Indonesia without proper medical checks.
South Fly police commander Supt Brian Kombe said the team would be patrolling the border to monitor people coming into the country.
He said there were no proper checks on people crossing the border.
The officers will also conduct awareness in villages on the border about the coronavirus and illegal activities.
Supt Kombe said people were crossing the border without proper medical checks to make sure they were not infected with the coronavirus.
Western shares borders with Indonesia and Australia.
And some arriving from those countries engage in illegal fishing, gun-smuggling and drug trading.
Supt Kombe said some had been arrested and prosecuted but more were coming in.
