WE need straight forward talk and approach on the lack of enforcing police discipline by the police hierarchy and the Prime Minister’s “one strike out” idea is welcome news.

Police personal should be the most disciplined individuals at all times either in uniforms or as civilians and that has truly being lacking over the last 12 years or so.

Police Commissioner Gari Baki must start liaising with the Department of Higher Education so that academically sound and above average young students can be offered a place as school leavers for direct entry from national high school to the police college so that his idea of increasing the basic police training from 6 to 18 months can be fitting. Stop all mass recruitments sponsored by provincial governments because that exercise alone has reduced police discipline to the lowest point.

Baki must implement the “one strike out” policy work to save face of the once highly disciplined Police Force.
