Start enforcing death penalty on rapists

THANKYOU for giving me this space to air my views on one of the most crucial issues plaguing our society.

Like other concerned male citizens of PNG, I am frustrated and deeply saddened to read about the rape of our mothers, grandmothers, wives, daughters and sisters.

It seems like a helpless and hopeless struggle for them to seek the protection they deserve under the laws of this land when some of those entrusted to enforce the laws are the cause of this barbaric crime.

Such is the case reported about the alleged sexual penetration of a 13-year-old primary school girl by a policeman in Port Moresby on New Year’s Day. My heart goes out to the girl and her family.

This horrific incident is real enough for all of us to raise our guard for our female relatives and make a united call for the government to take drastic action against the perpetrators.

This incident is one of many previous cases and the Government would be allowing more to occur if they do not act prompt to curb this dreadful crime.

That means enforcing the death penalty, which I am sure we can will minimise the chances of rape incidents.

The scar of rape and similar crimes is traumatising as the victims and their families  live with it for the rest of their lives

Nobody deserves to suffer this pain and humiliation, which should never be allowed to happen under any circumstances.
