Police planning return to Hanuabada to bring crime under control

NATIONAL Capital District police are discussing with Hanuabada leaders the restoration of police services in the village.
NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N’Dranou said police were banned by the villagers in 2014 from entering Hanuabada following a police shooting which resulted in two deaths. He met community leaders yesterday at Boroko police station and told them that police would be resuming operations in the area.
“I do not want us to go in and see youths and local communities not agreeing with the lifting of the ban in the village,” N’Dranou said.
Nine of the leaders who met with police include Poreporena Laurabada electorate member Dikana Boge, magistrates, councillors and church leaders.
Boge said the leaders welcomed the move by police to restore policing services because law and order issues like consumption and distribution of illegal drugs and alcohol were on the rise.
“People are actually brewing and selling homebrew like soft drink in the marketplace because police do not go there,” he said.
He said criminals in the city hid vehicles they stole there because they knew it was a no-go zone for them. Boge assured the police that they would conduct a meeting with the villagers to inform them of the lifting of ban.
Boroko superintendent operations Michael Tilae said he could not wait to start police operations.
“We will restore community policing as soon as possible,” he said.
