EAST New Britain (ENB) commander Snr Insp Joseph Tabali has assured Rabaul town market residents and vendors that police posts are being set up for the suburbs.
“The increase of the law and order problems, fights, especially in our town markets, the police posts are being set up in Kenebot at the Takubar market police post in Kokopo and in Tokua,” he said. “An occurrence book, or OB book, will be maintained in the front desk to help those who need to lodge police reports.” Chief Insp Tabali spoke after officiating at the opening of the new Rabaul town market police post on Thursday. “We just need support from stakeholders, especially businessmen, to set up the posts,” he said. “Recently, two fights were reported at the Rabaul and Kokopo markets. “With the new police post here (Rabaul market), it will help boost our confidence in minimising petty crime. “Our aim is to set up police posts in our markets so that police presence can help provide a safe environment for our vendors and customers.
“The ENB market authority, through its acting manager and Kokopo city manager Freddy Lemeki and its acting deputy manager Ismael Piupiu Jr should be commended for their initiatives to set up a police post here. “Police presence will also enhance public safety for both traders and customers.”
