Police reservists recruitment biased

Letters

THE police reservists recruitment programme is biased, especially for Morobe.
This was witnessed by selected candidates in Morobe.
There was a national selection list published in the newspapers with the endorsement of the Police Ministry.
The recruitment process was just a waste of time for most applicants.
I believe the recruitment team from Port Moresby were present in the province just for the sake of formalities.
I snooped around a bit on Monday at Angau Memorial Hospital when candidates were presenting their documents, including medical test results for doctors’ approval and certification before emailing to Port Moresby.
I asked some of the candidates and was told that their offers were received long before the actual recruitment process.
I have two cousins – young and energetic men – who are qualified to be recruited but were not.
One has a diploma in accounting and the other is a grade 12 graduate.
They were selected in the national list.
There were too many names mixed up during the recruitment exercise.
Even entry tests were overlooked and not properly organised.
To Police Commissioner David Manning, the biased selection is an act of corruption.
This is part of the reason why it is hard to trust the police.
Year after year we hear and witness misconduct that spoil the constabulary’s reputation.
Maybe this is because of such practices during recruitment.
I am asking if something can
be done for applicants who had their names published in the newspapers but did not receive their offers.
