Police roadblock

Letters

I WRITE in support of the letter by As Pin on Aug 9 regarding the roadblock at the Yonki part of the Highlands Highway.
I am sure the writer noticed that the roadblocks start from Asaro down to Yonki.
There is something really wrong with Eastern Highlands police.
Their main task of being a policeman is to conduct frequent road checks.
In the past, checking vehicles would result in the owner being warned to get the defects fixed before returning to the road, whereas now it’s all about the police officers issuing on-the-spot fines and then gaining from the fines paid.
The police department needs to explain what the on-the-spot fines are about. Do they go to the government or do they go the policeman’s pocket.
In most cases, these on-the-spot fines are nothing less than daylight robbery by the police.
Those old Yonki police officers should stop harassing people on the road.
