POLICE say six men in Customs uniform walked into an Asian shop in Port Moresby yesterday and robbed an undisclosed amount of money.
Gordon Police Station Snr Const Joe Neil said the robbery took place at the Gordon industrial area.
He said four accomplices were waiting in a white Land Cruiser with registration number BCR 670, according to witnesses.
“After the incident, people just went in a started looting the shop,” Snr Const Neil said.
He said some robberies took place in Moresby North-West recently and urged business houses to be on alert. “This time of the year, it is not good for people to operate 24 hours,” he said.
“There was a holdup at J Mart and then holdups of two kai bars at Gordon and then there was another one at a shop at 6-Mile,” he said.
Snr Const Neil said business houses must seriously consider operating during the day for their own benefit and minimise risks of being robed.

  • Police are providing inadequate security. Most times they seek alms in cash or kind in return for providing or agreeing to provide security services which they are legally mandated to provide for everyone at no cost. for the police to encourage business owners to curtail their operations for fear of criminal reprisals is uncalled for and irresponsible.
Come on Police, get your act in order.
As to the modus operandi used by the criminals to stage this crime, it has been a long time coming. Authorities concerned should have installed protocols which must be communicated to all businesses so they are aware and which will enable them to distinguish between the real authorities and imposters as such. This is clearly a lack of vision and anticipation by the authorities concerned. My hear goes out to the business people who suffered losses due to incompetency on the part of police and authorities concerned.

  • Business operate and pay taxes to govt for the police to get paid and live in police houses. Why do police have to tell business houses when to shut and when to open when its their job to maintain surveillance.
