SUMKAR MP Chris Nangoi has made a commitment to provide additional funding to build one more teacher’s house for Waduin Primary School in the Sumgilbar LLG along the north coast of Madang.
Nangoi, who is Minister for Correctional Services, made the commitment after he was satisfied with how the board and school administration managed K50,000 funding to build a teacher’s house and started building another one with the funds left over.
During the opening of the new teachers’ house yesterday, Nangoi told the students, staff and parents that as their local MP, he was pleased with how they had used the money to build a house and were able to start construction on a second one.
“I was thinking the K50,000 would be used to build only one house but it seems what I’ve seen has proven otherwise, therefore I will continue to support the school to complete the other house,” he said.
“This has shown that the board and administration were being responsible and transparent in ensuring that public funds were being utilised in the rightful manner.”
Nangoi said his administration would continue to support the education sector in Sumkar to produce human resource for the district, province and the country.
Waduin Primary School head teacher Anthonia Manini thanked Nangoi, saying his assistance was timely as most of her staff were still living in run down houses built when the school was opened in 1989.
