Police seize homebrew equipment, drugs, firearm

POLICE in Finschhafen district of Morobe have confiscated about 50 cylinders used for producing homebrew.
Sgt John Bain and his 11 officers from the Southern command conducted a raid in the district, from the coastal villages to the inland in an effort to reduce crime.
They apprehended a murder escapee during the raid.
Sgt Bain said every village they covered saw councillors helping police in rounding up not only homebrew equipment but marijuana also.
“We have confiscated one home-made firearm, plastics of marijuana and about 50 cylinders used in production of homebrew,” he said.
“We have also recaptured one escapee who we turned over to the Buimo Correctional Services prison.
“He was convicted for murder in 2009 and received 12 years but he escaped in 2013 during a breakout and was apprehended at Helsberg.”
“We are getting assistance from everyone.
“We have been in the district for three months and we have continued awareness in all villages.
“Our awareness is on drugs, homebrew and other crimes and policing information the villagers would need.”
“All black markets selling alcohol have been closed.
“We have arrested and charged the black market operators.
“Especially those who did not have a trading licences.
“Only those with licences are allowed to sell alcohol.
“We will continue our work,” Sgt John Bain said.
