Police station records 50 arrests

THE Port Moresby Police Station recorded 50 arrests in February, the highest in the city.
NCD Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N’dranou, who attended their monthly parade yesterday, was impressed with the station’s work.
This is especially after he had been telling police officers to ‘pull up their socks’ and do more arrests.
Station commander Max Dogme told The National that officers were grouped in units of five.
He said his police officers were doing extremely well, despite the common problem of “fuel shortage”.
Dogme said there was increased use of marijuana and homebrew in urban villages like Hanuabada, which was becoming a major problem. “Communities have been struggling there because of the drug abuse in the village,” he said.
“We are working closely with village councillors to make more arrests of those who are distributing and reselling,” Dogme said.
