A POLICE Task Force team bashed up a colleague accused of having sex with a minor in a remote area of Western, South Fly, police commander Supt Brian Kombe says.
“The team of mobile squad and Daru Police Response Unit went to the Tapila Logging Camp and bashed up their colleague on New Year’s day for allegedly having sex with a seven-year-old girl when he attempted to escape,” Supt Kombe said.
“That officer based in Daru was sent to the camp to relieve the camp’s station police officer who had gone for the festive holidays,” he told The National yesterday.
“While stationed there temporarily, he ended up committing this serious offence on Tuesday, the last day of 2018.”
Kombe said the officer was among 75 crime suspects arrested and detained at the Daru Police Station.
Most of them are accused of consuming homebrew and marijuana.
“The police Task Force team in this festive season operation did an excellent job by enforcing law and order in my command and I’m very happy with them.
“But I’m not happy with my officer who is now being detained for (alleged) sex crime.
“And this is a warning to other police officers who are stationed in remote areas in my command.
“I will not tolerate such behaviour among officers.
“Communities are mostly remote and isolated and located along swamps, rivers, coastlines, forests and savannah grasslands.”
“The cells are full and we might release them because the courts are still closed and the legal year is not open yet.
“I want to thank the auxiliary police officers and community leaders for working with the Task Force team to ensure that communities enjoy a peaceful festive season.”
