POLICE will conduct an inquiry into how University of PNG students and a few members of the public got injured during a confrontation with police on Wednesday in Port Moresby.
Police Commissioner Gari Baki said they would also look into the conduct of the Students Representative Council officials and members.
“We will conduct our own investigations into the injuries sustained by the students and the public to see whether they are gunshot wounds,” he said. “The other part of the inquiry will include the conduct of the SRC president and members of the SRC so police will take an interest in this now.” Baki said normalcy had been restored in most parts of Port Moresby although police officers would continue to patrol the city.
The only problem was the withdrawal of bus services.
“Buses are not going to Gerehu except for one or two. But there is normalcy in other parts of the city, shops are open,” he said.
“It’s important that the public must go back to their normal activities.”
He blamed social media for instigating violence in Mt Hagen and Lae where schools and businesses were disrupted.
