POLICE launched a new clearance form yesterday with added security features designed to minimise fakes and duplicates being produced.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, (ACP) Crimes, Hodges Ette said during the launch at police headquarters in Konedobu, Port Moresby, that the new police clearance character check certificate would be a necessary document for those seeking employment, to do business and other purposes.
He said the current form used had been open to abuse and fraudulent use.
“We are now changing the image of police clearance certificate that has been used for the last 46 years, since independence,” he said.
ACP Ette said the features of the new clearance form was produced internally without any departmental cost apart from the general administration.
He said police would no longer issue nor accept the previous clearance form, adding that those issued with the clearance form up until last Friday had three months to update their character certificates with the new one.
“Police clearance certificate with the old design will no longer be accepted by March, 2022,” he added, saying that the new certificate had categories for citizens, expatriates and public motor vehicles (PMVs) for the transport sector particularly Motor Vehicle Insurance.
The clearance will also apply to firearm owners and security firms and other sectors.
ACP Ette said certain categories and charges would be put in place for the people to afford the police clearance.
