Police urge ESP women to use self-raising flour

WOMEN and mothers in East Sepik have been urged to use self-raising flour to make dough following the banning of yeast products on Monday, police say.
Provincial police commander Supt Albert Beli said the decision to remove yeast from shop shelves by relevant authorities resurfaced as a result of increased homebrew consumption by young people in the province.
In 2015, the East Sepik government temporarily banned the sale of yeast products for the same reason.
Local police, authorities and the business community in a meeting over the weekend agreed to reintroduce

the no-yeast policy.
Supt Beli said both men and women were producing homebrew for sale.
He said there were penalties for those caught selling yeast or producing homebrew.
Supt Beli also cautioned shop owners from selling cheap alcohol and to operate within the set trading hours from Mondays to Thursdays.
He said any business owner caught violating the ban would have their trading licence revoked.
