Police urging drivers to follow rules

SINCE the traffic intervention operations campaign was launched in the capital city two weeks ago, 133 vehicles were stopped and checked.
Met Supt Perou N’dranou said police noted that drivers’ behaviours were improving at traffic lights.
“We hope that drivers continue to (maintain adhering to traffic rules) instead of (pretending) in the presence of the police at these streets and the traffic lights to observe the traffic rules,” he said.
“The roads/streets will be safer when all drivers observe all traffic rules when using these public roads daily.”
According to incidents reported, traffic light violations totalled 75 infringements, 18 unregistered vehicles, 4 overloading, with one load protruding 1.5 metres.
“For PMVs found on unauthorised routes we issued five TINs and various other offences including unlicensed drivers, unlicensed PMVs or taxis, driving without due care.
Seventeen unauthorised number plates were also reported.
“I urge all road users, especially the drivers, to be patient and to observe all rules while driving.”
“Your driving can make it safe.”
