THE Royal PNG Constabulary (RPNGC) is calling on more provinces and districts to join the kina-for-kina programme to enhance policing in their areas.
Deputy Commissioner for Police – Operations (DCP) Donald Yamasombi said the programme would see provinces or districts put up money in a 50-50 funding arrangement to procure vehicles.
“Northern is the second province to take carriage of the 12 new vehicles, the first electorate was Madang, who, through the kina-for-kina programme, had 12 new vehicles delivered by their MP,” he said.
DCP Yamasombi said East Sepik would be the next province to acquire vehicles.
The kina-for-kina programme was initiated by the former minister for police Bryan Kramer to allow police to partner provinces or districts to purchase vehicles for their electorates.
Under the programme, RPNGC invited governors and district development authorities (DDA) to participate in funding arrangement to procure new vehicles.
The programme has two options: the K2 million option where the police and DDA each put in K1mil for the purchase of 12 vehicles; or the K1mil option where the police and DDA each put in K500,000 for the purchase of six vehicles.
