Police want to make city safe for all

Police want to make Port Moresby safer for visitors and residents.
Acting deputy police commissioner operations David Manning said this could be achieved by working closely with the National Capital District Commission (NCDC).
Manning told The National that there were existing laws (by-laws or regulations) and the police had entrusted the NCDC reservist police unit to enforce them.
He said the regular police and reservist must work together to cut down illegal street vending in the city.
He said NCDC was the legally mandated authority to enforce by-laws and regulations and the police would assist them to arrest and charge the offenders.
The sale of betel nut is getting out of hand as if there is no law in place to punish those who are selling in areas that are restricted, Manning said.
