A policeman who allegedly shot dead a bus driver at Manu Autoport in Port Moresby last month appeared for the first time in court yesterday.
Committal Court magistrate Albert Daniels presiding in Waigani read the details of the murder charge to Scott Raga, and adjourned the case to April 16 for mention.
Raga, 29 from Rigo’s Kemaea village, Central, remains in custody.
Police allege that Raga who was attached to the Water Police and fellow police officers responded to a report of an alleged drunk and disorderly man harassing the public at Manu Autoport on Feb 17.
Once the police arrived at Manu Autoport, it is alleged that Raga armed with a shot gun arrested bus driver Jesse Ambu for harassing people.
Police allege that Ambu in response slashed Raga on his right hand with a knife.
Police further allege that Raga then kicked Ambu and shot him after Ambu tried to cut him again with the knife.
Ambu was rushed to the Port Moresby General Hospital Emergency ward but died later.
