Policeman charged with extortion granted K500 bail

A POLICEMAN charged with extortion has been granted a K500 bail to reappear in court on Feb 4, 2020.
Russell Hasu, 37, from Ifiufa village in Goroka, Eastern Highlands, allegedly obtained K300 after arresting Constable Pulaip Nuli who was in a vehicle they stopped and took to the Hohola Police Station on Sept 26.
Magistrate Cosmas Bidar said Hasu demanded money from Nuli and his family.
He managed to get K300.
The matter was reported to the Gordon police station and Hasu was charged with two counts of extortion and receiving gratification.
