A POLICEMAN charged with two counts of deprivation of liberty has been granted a K500 bail to reappear in court on Dec 5.
Benjamin Koim, 28, of Kelua village in Hagen Central, Western Highlands, appeared before Magistrate Cosmas Bidar on Tuesday for allegedly detaining Jason Wena and Robert Jack against their will in September.
Police alleged that Koim detained the two after Wena did not produce documents to prove he owned the vehicle inside the compound the two were renting at Kopiago Block Two, 6-Mile.
The vehicle became the subject of a police investigation after someone complained to police that he had bought the vehicle which Wena was keeping at his home.
It is alleged that Koim and other officers broke into the compound and ordered Wena to drive the vehicle to the Gerehu Police Station.
He refused.
Koim allegedly called his colleagues who arrested Wena and Jack.
They later released the two from the station. The vehicle was impounded at the station.
Wena later lodged a complaint with the police Internal Investigation Unit when it disappeared from the station.

  • Food for thought…there seem to be more Police Officers summoned to court then ordinary citizens, very soon the table will turn and ordinary citizens will be doing police work and placing charges on Police Officers who have become law breakers and criminals…over to you Police Commissioner.
