Poll shows mixed reactions towards prostitution

PEOPLE around the country have mixed views on the issue of prostitution, with some saying the human body is sacred as it is regarded as God’s temple.
In a poll conducted this week, Jacoqubeth Kuglame of Chimbu said prostitution degraded one’s integrity.
“Our body is the temple of God and should be respected,” she said.
Jackson Mote from Eastern Highlands condemned prostitution as bad.
“God created men and women to get married and have children. Our bodies are sacred and not to be abused,” he said.
Agnes Moide from Gulf said people who did not respect themselves had no values.
“They think that money is more important than life. But to me, life is more important than money.”
Meanwhile, Justice Minister and Attorney-General Davis Steven said the law on prostitution in PNG was unclear.
He told The National he would have to check with State lawyers first before making a statement on the issue.
“We owe it to our people to be correct about the position of the law on these very important social issues,” Steven said.
Catholic Bishops Conference of PNG and Solomon Islands Bishop Rochus Tatamai told The National that life was a gift from God and no one should use it as an object to satisfy one’s pleasure and receive money for it.
He blames the current “economic crisis” as one of the reasons behind the increase in prostitution.

  • Please, never think or talk about legalizing prostitution in our Christian country PNG. Let’s not Forget that Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed because of fornication and adultery and let’s never ever allow it or even talk about it. Let’s talk about how Prostitution will be and shall be eliminated at all cost in this country PNG.
Let’s not invite curse and destruction into our country, society and citizens by talking about legalizing it. Never!
