Polling in Lae urban starts smoothly, says officer

POLLING for ward councillors in Morobe started on Saturday with no major hiccups.
For Lae urban, polling started on Monday.
Counting and declarations are expected to end today.
Ahi LLG assistant returning officer Rhoda Nako said 301 polling officials had been stationed at 43 polling venues in Ahi’s 17 wards in Lae and Nawaeb urban while Lae urban LLG (LULLG) kicked off polling on Monday.
The LULLG had 53 polling venues.
Counting will be conducted at the National Polytechnic Institute of PNG (NPIPNG) while counting for Ahi will be at Emmanuel Lutheran School.
Nako said security was not necessary given that the elections were conducted at ward level and voters and scrutineers would be providing security. However, police presence was needed is some areas to control the behaviour of the voters and the general public.
Nako said polling and counting for her LLG were expected to end today.
Meanwhile, some voters from ward 12, Ahi LLG declined to vote on Monday saying they did not see services provided by their councillor.
