AFL Port Moresby were the recipients of a single-cab Toyota Hilux utility donated the Bank of Papua New Guinea yesterday at the Colts Oval.
Papua New Guinea AFL commission chairman John Kali upon receiving the vehicle, thanked the central bank governor Loi Bakani for making his time available in his busy schedule to present the vehicle himself.
He said the vehicle would help the AFL staff in transporting equipment to the field and make it easier for them to do other necessary work for the code in Port Moresby. Kali said it was time that Papua New Guineans should support AFL in whatever way they could  with the national team enjoying success at the International Cup tournament in Melbourne, Australia.
“Unlike the other sporting codes, AFL is a least recognised sport in the country but it turned out to be the other way around when the least expected code brought tears of joy to many AFL fans in Australia and in PNG when the PNG Mosquitoes raised nations flag on the world stage” Kali said.
“Thus we all need to appreciate AFL PNG and for the central bank to come forth to support and stand at the back of AFL PNG is a major boost for the code”  BPNG Governor Bakani commended AFL PNG and POM AFL for their tireless effort in bringing  the sport to a higher standard.
He also congratulated the Mozzies for their 4.5 (29) – 4.4 (28) win over New Zealand. “And for the vehicle, it is just a token of appreciation to support POM AFL,” Bakani said.
Meanwhile, AFL Port Moresby will resume its normal competition rounds this weekend and AFL PNG operations manager Rex Leka has called on all the teams to turn up at Colts Oval to resume their competition.
