PORT Moresby-based company JRA Limited is backing Morobe Schoolboys ahead of the Nov 16-17 Brothers Sevens rugby tournament in the nation’s capital.
The company presented a full set of jerseys, shirts and caps to coach Robin Tarere and the players on Saturday.
JRA chairman Gideon Karali said the company’s aim was to see youngsters continue to play as a lot of rugby players had come through this channel.
“I believe we are investing in the right place. I’ve always had a strong belief in junior development,” he said.
“But unfortunately, junior development has not seen a lot of progress.
“The Supporters Club of Rugby Union in Morobe (Scrum) have got a history of producing stars, and Robin’s consistency and efforts over the years have been tremendous.
“I’m really pleased. The company has come to support in a little way. We believe this kind of partnership can move forward in the years to come.”
He said competing in the Brothers Sevens would help the side as all the big guns of rugby would be competing in the tournament.
“It will test your character but the best thing to get out of it is to enjoy yourselves, play your natural game and enjoy the exposure,” Karali said. “We’re not expecting you to get anything. For me, I’d love to see you guys get exposure and we can build on from there, play as a team, play for yourself and play for Morobe.”
Tarere said they had been struggling and the firm had come in at the right time to support the team.
“I think the best part of it is supporting the juniors,” he said.
“Sponsoring junior development will go a long way.”
The Pukpuks great said it would be the team’s first time to participate in the tournament.
Tarere said it would be an eye opener and an experience for his players as they had only competed in Lae tournaments.
“I thank JRA once again for supporting the team and Scrum, considering the expensive airfares, accommodation and other costs.
“We will go and play for ourselves, our sponsor and the sport itself.”
