MORE than 50 small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) turned up for the Port Moresby City Markets at the Stanley Esplanade, Harbourside in downtown Port Moresby on Saturday – the first to be held during the day.
POM City Markets manager Marie Nick Mapai said they usually opened the markets in the evenings since they started in 2017.
She added that they decided to gold it during the day to lure residents in Port Moresby and Central.
Featured were woven coconut baskets and import fashions. Artists decorated their stalls with paintings.
According to Mapai, the POM City Market management will review the outcome of last Saturday’s day event and whether to have another one.
She invites new SME owners looking for exposure and branding to join in.
To register, they can download the forms on the POM City markets Facebook page.
“Many startup SMEs (small to medium enterprises) which joined us are now opening up their own shops and growing.
“So I encourage the new upcoming SMEs to join us,” Mapai said.
Mapai and her husband Raymond Aisa were selling guavas, which are in season, from K5 and K10 (depending on the size) for her mother in law at the market.
“She’s not here so we are helping her out with her sales,” she said.
The POM City Markets is an initiative of the Pascoe Events and Marketing which provides an opportunity for city vendors to sell their art and craft wares as well as fresh produce.
