THE Port Moresby International School has won the National Capital District schools debate competition, beating Port Moresby National High School by 74 points.

The finals of the Institute of Business Studies school debate competition in NCD was held last Friday at the IBS Saraga campus in 6-Mile.

The competition with the theme “Developing young leaders of our nation” is into its fifth year.

 Eleven provinces are taking part.

The winners in the 11 provinces will compete in their regions.

The regional winners will then compete for the national title.

The NCD competition featured 11 schools (secondary and high schools).

The two finalists had a debate on the topic “The agreement between Australia and PNG to reopen the Manus asylum processing shelter is a breach of the PNG Constitution”.

The Pomis team scored 947 points while POMNHS 876.

IBS chairman Mick Nades said: “Despite not seeing the other nine schools debate I believe these two schools definitely earned their final spot.”

He said that the debates helped in developing the students through their efforts in researching the topics.
