POMRFL hold awards night

PORT Moresby Rugby Football League (POMRFL) concluded its season with a well-deserved presentation night held at Holiday Inn recently.
All three speakers, PNGRFL interim Board member Gary Juffa, acting PNGNRL board chairman Sudhir Guru and the acting chairman of POMRFL board Labi Amaiu spoke passionately of the vision and direction for the development of the code in the country where the rugby league is regarded as the national sport.
Amaiu acknowledged the continuous support of major sponsor SP Holdings and  the sponsor of the newly introduced women’s league in Port Moresby, Digicel.
He also acknowledged the 14 affiliated clubs their sponsors, officials and their fans for their support to watch their clubs every weekend.
Amaiu also thanked the companies who had come forward to support the night by purchasing tables.
During the presentation, POMRFL also gave awards to players, teams and officials.
Team awards: Minor premiers (U19) – Granville Kavo West, (A grade) – Hekari Tarangau.
2010 premiers (U19) – Snax Mastamak Kone Tigers, (A grade) – Tarangau.
Runners-up – (U19) – West, (A grade) – Kalvaso Property Management Butterflies.
Citizenship club award – Bishop Brothers Engineering Hawks.
Individual awards: Grand final man of the match (U19) – Kaspar Michael (Kone Tigers), (A grade) – John Giru (Tarangau).
Season awards: Best back (U19) – Kepsy Kenny (Kone Tigers), (A grade) – Jack Victor (Hawks).
Best forward (U19) – Bona Kale (Tarangau), (A grade) – Toto Lagiapawa (Butterflies).
Best utility (U19) – Mark Roy (Kone Tigers), (A grade) – William Mone (PRK Souths).
Top try scorer (U19) – Timothy Rauki (Flame Kone Storm), (A Grade) – Blend Abavu (Dobo Warriors).
Player of the year (U19) – Jayjay Gari (Wagambie Lawyers Paga Panthers), (A grade) – McKenzie Buka (Tarangau).
Rookie of the year – Solomon Pokari (Tarangau).
Club  Officials: Coach of the year (U19) – Leo Chris (Kone Tigers), (A Grade) – Dr James Naipao (Hekari Tarangau).
Team manager of the year (U19) – Simon Maima (Papuan Gold Royals), (A grade) – Gabriel Mangawa (Kawaso Defence).
Technical officials: Most improved referee of the year – Michael Kalpe and Referee of the year – Tony Kuni.
