THE Port Moresby Rugby Football League (POMRFL) is planning to start its competition this year with the administration continuing preparations during the 14-day lockdown of the nation’s capital.
POMRFL football operations manager and administrator Meke Maino urged all clubs and players to refrain from group gatherings and training during the lockdown.
“We’re ready with our personal protective equipment (PPE) and our sponsorship from SP Brewery but the situation on the ground is not visibly up to standard,” he said.
“We’ve received affiliations from all the clubs now so we’ll be using the next two weeks to work on the conditions on the ground.
“We’ll be putting the markings on the selected areas or zones outside the field of play which will be change areas and sanitation booths.
“The venue management has not allowed us to use oval two due to the rehabilitation programme they have been running.
“So hopefully by the end of the lockdown, the field is ready for us to use.”
Maino also advised clubs to issue a player list for each grade as it was vital to the league’s contact tracing database.
“This two weeks should also give ample time for clubs to issue a list of registered players for the competition,” he said.
“Since the season is short, we’re asking club presidents to cut down on their lists per division.
“We can’t have an excess of players on game day and it’s important that clubs understand why we’re doing this.”
