POMRFL to host annual meeting

THE Port Moresby Rugby Football League (POMRFL) will hold its annual general meeting (AGM) on Saturday at the Oil Search National Football Stadium.
League administrator Meke Maino told The National yesterday that the AGM was initially scheduled for Feb 27 but was deferred a number times due to various reasons.
“The first deferral was due to not many teams paying their full affiliation fee that’s why we had to wait,” he said.
“We were then set to host the AGM on March 6 but postponed it again due to the mourning of the late Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare.
“Now that everything has come to pass, we are set for this Saturday.”
Maino said the annual Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC) Nines was also scheduled to start on Friday but POMRFL had to delay the six-day tournament.
“The delay of MRDC Nines is because of two reasons,” he said.
“Firstly, the resurgence of Covid-19, we are working around the clock to write to the office of the pandemic controller to get approval.
“Secondly, we are awaiting MRDC – the naming-rights sponsors – for a positive response in terms of sponsorship.”
