MORE than 600 dedicated Christian Brethren church women from the highlands region gathered last month for a church conference at Pori, in the Tari-Pori district,

Hela.

They shared God’s Word for six days to nourish and enrich their faith.

Church elder Poge Gewane said distance did not matter when women were determined to strengthen their faith in Christ.

“Women travelled from Western Highlands, Porgera, Nogoli and of course from Auwi, Arou, Kelabo, Guala Kakarene, Maria, Tade and Lagayu with decorations and banners  declaring their faith in Jesus Christ,” Gewane said.

“To some it was their regular event but for a small congregation in Nogoli (LNG area) it was their first experience to travel to this corner of the province.”

Gewane said the conference theme was “Let your light shine”.

At the end of the conference, 56 men in the Pori area who also came to join their wives renewed their faith in God.

“Many mothers recommitted their lives and were encouraged to be the light in their areas, most importantly to their immediate family members.”

He said during the conference that an ailing chief from the Pori area, Hibuye Warago, had fellowship with his sons, daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren at his ridge home overlooking the Pori CBC mission station.

“Chief Warago was one of those men who went to and invited the first missionaries from Guala to go to Pori to be the pioneer missionaries there,” Gewane said.
