PANAMEX Softex Poro FC is leading the Ox & Palm women’s national soccer league Lae leg with two wins and a draw.

The women from the Papuan Compound beat Rossco Ltd Bara FC in game one and then beat Prima Smallgoods PNG Power FC 5-4 in game two last week.

On Saturday, they drew 1-1 with defending champions Rossco Ltd Bara at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium.

The first half of the match was scoreless as both teams made errors and missed opportunities.

Bara’s Eliunah Bayung, who stood out for her side with dazzling breaks and skills, had the chance to open scoring from a kick from Sasha Steven that lured Softex Poro’s goalkeeper Schola Kaizam to come out.

But Bayung could not convert.

Moments later Poro’s Zeena Limbai, playing against her former teammates, made a clean break and was all clear to score but did not have enough power in her shot, allowing Bara goalkeeper Fidelma Watpore to save with ease.

Coming back from the break, a misunderstanding between Poro’s Kaizam and Dinah Dabinyaba near their own goalmouth about who should get the ball opened a gap for Bayung to score. But the lead was cut short for the young Bara side when Jonuwe Atia from Poro FC sent a good ball across for hardworking Meagan Gunemba to equalise for the 1-1 draw.

Poro FC now sits with seven points from two wins and a draw followed by PNG Power FC on three Bara FC on one point.
