THE Port Moresby Rugby Football League (POMRFL) went into its second week of competition at the Oil Search National Football Stadium on Friday, with a good turnout from clubs and players.
POMRFL administrator Meke Maino said the second week of games saw a bigger turnout from clubs with teams and officials slowly getting used to the league’s Covid-19 protocols.
“Comparing the second week with the first, we have progressed well with players and officials improving their approach towards the competition’s Covid-19 guidelines and teams showing up for their games,” he said.
“Unfortunately, we weren’t able to have women’s matches over the weekend but the Under-20s and A-grade played theirs.
“Clubs have picked up well but there are a few areas that need attention such as crowding outside the venue after matches.
“We’re still operating without spectators as per the orders from the national controller so we can’t do much to accommodate extra personnel and we’re calling on clubs to be mindful of the measure.” Maino said while the protocols had been put in place, it would take time for clubs and players to adhere to the “new normal”.
Meanwhile, he acknowledged the support of security personnel who have assisted officials in screening teams and ensuring rules were followed.
