Port Moresby league to play washout matches today

THE Port Moresby Rugby Football League’s qualifying finals have been re-scheduled to today following wet conditions at the Oil Search National Football Stadium.
League administrator Meke Maino said the continuous rains on Saturday and the unavailability of referees had prompted the decision to re-schedule the matches.
“Unfortunately, two things happened,” he said.
“One was that there were no referees available to start the games and secondly was the weather.
“We had teams ready and warming up and the turf was fine on Saturday, but when the heavy rains came down, oval two was flooded and it was impossible to hold the games.
“We talked with the venue management and the four Under-20 finalists that were supposed to start our finals, and agreed to suspend games for the day and re-schedule the matches to Tuesday (today).”
Maino said today’s schedule would follow the same timing from Saturday with teams and officials expected to start matches early.
“We’ve all agreed to the re-scheduled matches,” he said.
“We’ve come up with a scheduled agreement with the referees for the matches, so there shouldn’t be a problem in starting the finals.”
The U20 and first-graders will play two qualifying matches each for their top-four sides while the women’s division play one match.
