PORT Moresby Suburban Rugby League has moved its grand finals to next year, giving time for its administration to prepare while teams recover during the festive season.
League president James Paul told The National yesterday that the timing and lack of funds to host grand finals for its three divisions saw the tentative postponement to Jan 9.
“We haven’t received any feedback from our sponsors or the Office of the National Capital District Governor since we were promised funding earlier this year, so we’ve postponed the grand finals to Jan 9.
“We also want to give a chance to all grand finalists to recover during Christmas, so we can resume with the finals next month.”
Meanwhile, Paul said the competition’s representative team, Suburban Ducks, received very little support with the league still determined to filter players through to the national level.
“We also have a team, Ducks, in the Southern Super League National Gaming Control Board Cup,” he said.
“They are our representative team where we pick from the competition’s 18 clubs.
“Ducks are the next step of the league’s pathway to getting our players recognised and moving them up to bigger competitions like the Digicel Cup.”
