Representatives from the National Capital District Governor’s Office launched the Suburban Soccer Easter tournament on Sunday.
The tournament is expected to start a week before the Easter holiday.
Coordinator Gibson Kinau said the tournament will have separate cups for the men and women’s division.
In the men’s division, teams will challenge for the Governor’s Cup while the women’s teams will challenge for the Walk and Yoga for Life Manageress Cup.
Kinau said the launching was made during the NCD Suburban Soccer grand final at STC Oval in Waigani on Sunday.
He said the Morata Roots Soccer Association that runs the suburban competition thanked Governor Powes Parkop for sending his officers to officiate at the grand final and launching of the Easter tournament.
“We are excited to work with our governor to keep our youths from the all suburb busy during the long Easter break,” he said.
Kinau said the tournament would roll out as soon as they receive assurance from the Governor’s Office.
He appealed to all interested teams to prepare for the tournament.
Meanwhile, the NCD Suburban Soccer ended on Sunday, with Yangers FC defeating Nikints FC 1-0 in the men’s division. In the women’s division, Nine City United defeated Nikints 1-0 through a penalty goal by Tracy Bwam.
