PNG Power have maintained top spot with a resounding 8-4 victory over Lae Biscuit Gazelle in the main Port Moresby men A grade softball match played at Bisini Softball Diamond on Sunday.
Despite the wet and muddy condition of the softball diamonds, both teams tried their best to score runs.
After scoreless first inning, PNG Power picked up three runs at the top of second inning through Steven Polum and the home run by Danny Tovia.
At the bottom of the second inning, Chris Pamel was caught out by Isikel Tovia Junior after an attempted bunt.
The next batter, Gabriel Pamel walked to first base courtesy of bad pitching by Danny Tovia of PNG Power.
Harry Mathew executed a clever bunt to race to first base while Pamel advanced to second base.
An attempt to tag Pamel on second base was unsuccessful with a mis-throw so he advanced to third and then raced home for the first point for Gazelle to trail 3-1.
Next batter Tony Karani was K2’d for all out.
At the top of the third inning, Demas Tovia and Eddie Simba were dismissed for two down.
Isikel Tovia Jr sent a ball to the outfield to reach first base safely.
The results of other matches saw United Brothers 11 Mantarays 0, Wolves 10 Kopex 1, Brown Eagles 3 Bears 1 and Defence 12 Stringers 3.
