PAPUA New Guinea Power Ltd (PPL) chief executive officer Obed Batia says installation of smart meters will be the next move to curb power theft.
He said in partnership with the USAID-PNG Electricity Partnership, this would be a top priority.
He said an amnesty period which would end on Aug 31 would enable consumers to register with PPL for a proper connection.
“We have few initiative and one of them is the amnesty programme, while others are meter boxing, data cleansing, feeder corrections and also the long term one would be having smart meters, which will play a vital role in the future, so that is what we are aiming for down the path.”
