Praise for residents

NCD Governor Powes Parkop commended the city residents for a peaceful behaviour during the parliament sitting in the city last week.
Parkop, in a statement, thanked the police for maintaining peace and order in the city.
He said such an orderly behaviour from the people is making a bold statement in itself that they have embraced change and respected parliamentary democracy, processes and procedures.
He attributed it to infrastructure developments, recently-opened Closed-circuit television (CCTV) facility, change and maturity of the people, deployment of foot and mobile police and the cleanliness of the city itself.
Parkop continued that his assurance – to the business houses, diplomatic corps and the general public that it is a business as usual in the city – was well received by the people.
He said he took steps to ensure the safety and tranquillity of the City is maintained when eyes of the world are focused on Port Moresby again.
“We have shown again to the world that we are a progressive nation and we value democracy,” Parkop said.
He said all CCTV cameras were used to detect crime and monitor the movement of people to avoid any problems in the city.
