A COMPANY is continuing its support of Athletics Papua New Guinea’s (APNG) training programmes around the country with fortnightly donations of their products.
A small group of distance runners based at Utmei Secondary School, East New Britain, received their third donation of the year from Prima Smallgoods in Kokopo on Saturday.
The group includes 2019 Pacific Games representatives Monica Kalua, Mary Tenge and Siune Kagl. Athletics PNG president Tony Green thanked Prima for its ongoing support of the programmes at Utmei and in Kerowagi, Chimbu.
Green also acknowledged the support of K Central for transporting the donation from Lae.
Tenge was one of the star performers at the PNG Air Athletics Grand Prix in Port Moresby in July, winning the 3,000m and 5,000m, with Kagl setting a personal best in the 1,500m and contributing to some very good times in the men’s 3,000m and 5,000m by setting a strong pace in both races.
Kalua was the winner of the women’s 1,500m.
The three athletes, along with their training partners and schoolmates Adolf Kauba, Sialis Passinghan and Israel Takap, are looking forward to the second part of the series in Kimbe from Nov 26-29.
This will be followed by the PNG Air National Championships From Dec 3 to 5.
