EYA Primary School along Morobe’s southern coast is aiming to build three double classrooms and six teachers’ houses.
Huon Gulf MP Ross Seymour helped head teacher Timothy Touyauya and board chairman John Gaina with 15 desks and chairs as well as a 40hp motorised dinghy last Friday.
Touyauya also brought a portable sawmill to Lae for repairs.
The machine had been given to the Eya-Gugumi community by Seymour two years ago.
He also secured water-sanitation project for the community to be co-funded by Huon Gulf district development authority (HGDDA) and ADRA (Adventist Development Relief Assistance).
He said after completing the classrooms, the community would cut timber to build their family houses which HGDDA would provide roofing iron.
Seymour commended Touyauya for his efforts in helping the Eya-Gugumi community.
“I have seen Touyauya as a determined and courageous teacher who wanted to do things for the people; we need more people like him in remote schools,” Seymour said.
