STUDENTS at the Warangoi Primary School in Pomio district, East New Britain, have a new double classroom to use from next year.

The facility, donated by Tropicana Ltd, was opened last Wednesday during the school’s Grade 8 graduation.

Head teacher Clement Kulavui said the school thanked the managing director of Tropicana Sandra Lau for the wonderful Christmas gift for the Warangoi community and its children.

“Mrs Lau has assisted us with a new double classroom which will promote academic excellence through commitment and networking with public-private partnership in all,” he said.

“The new classroom has been a great relief to the parents, teachers and students who have been forced to use a leaking makeshift and classrooms without walls.”

Kulavui said the school had to crowd students into one building due to lack of classroom facilities.

He said the school, with a student population of 856, lacked support from authorities and parents in terms of delay in the payments of project fees.

“The school is the biggest in Pomio and deserves equal educational opportunities by the Pomio district administration,” he said.

“As the largest school, it deserves a better learning infrastructure and materials.

“But there is never been any assistance by the governments over many years.

“Liu has given us a Christmas present and we really appreciate it.”

Kulavui said teachers’ living conditions needed to be looked at seriously to meet the expectations of achieving a high standard of learning for children.
