THE redevelopment of Huonville Primary School teaching facilities is progressing well.
Head Teacher Willie Vilakiva said a team from the Provincial Works Department visited the site last Friday.
Vilakiva said the construction of school facilities to cater for 1,400 students, will soon begin after the completion of tendering and bidding process for construction companies to apply.
Vilakiva acknowledged the Morobe government and Governor Ginson Saonu for allocating K500,000 in the 2019 budget to rebuild permanent school facilities.
Last year, the fire and health authorities condemned the facilities unfit to cater for students learning which resulted in demolition of classrooms.
“The school was desperate in funds to build 24 makeshift shelters immediately to ensure students’ learning when Steven Boting came in to assist us”.
Vilakiva said Boting did all the work and negotiated with Saonu to secure disaster funds of K100,000 to build 13 makeshift shelters.
Vilakiva said K1,000 was alledgedly paid to Boting in portions of K500 respectively, that was based on the school board’s unanimous decision.
Boting said the school requested for his assistance that so he gave them ideas on how to approach the governor’s office to seek help.
Boting completed documents, secured the funding and the cheque was delivered by education reform coordinator Haring Qoreka and professional assistant Berei Kalo.
