PRIME Minister Peter O’Neill has extended his sympathies to the family of former MP for Kagua-Erave, David Basua, who passed away this week.
Basua was a two-term MP and headed several ministries, including the ministry of culture and tourism.
He was also a member of several parliamentary committees.
Basua collapsed at the Kimininga Lodge and was rushed to the Mt Hagen General Hospital but died on arrival at about 7pm last Sunday.
He came from Katiloma village in the Kagua district.
O’Neill said it was a pleasure to have worked with Basua, particularly in the later part of his second term in office.
“On behalf of the government, my family and the people of Ialibu-Pangia, I convey our deepest sympathies to the family of the former member for Kagua-Erave,” O’Neill said.
Basua served as the Kagua-Erave MP from 1997 to 2007.
“I found him to be well-versed with the political process and he had the interest of his people at heart,” O’Neill said.
“He will be missed by all those who knew him and worked with him.”
