DEPUTY Prime Minister Leo Dion says the government must find a way to allow more resources to support the implementation of service delivery at provincial and local level government levels.
In order to do that, the government should completely realign national departments and agencies in Waigani so they effectively supported the implementation process.
Dion said many government departments and central agencies were disconnected from the provinces and had lost focus of their core mandates.
“I am advised that the department suffers principally from ongoing limitations to financial resources, which affects service delivery to all parts of the country,” Dion said.
“The O’Neill government has made an undertaking to address the issues of poor delivery to all sectors of the country.’’
The ripple effects of poor delivery resulted in low literacy rates, high child mortality and low life-expectancy.
“These are severe outcomes from the lack of services to many remote parts of the country,” he said.
