Princess commends heart treatment

PRINCESS Anne yesterday praised the work being done to improve the treatment of heart patients in the country, saying a lot had been achieved since her last visit.
“I recognise the work you have been doing particularly in the cardiac area,” Princess Anne said.
“The progress has been amazing since I was last here.
“I see it’s a constant process.
“More to come.
“But it’s a pleasure to see what you have achieved.
“It’s remarkable in a short space of time. Well done.”
She officially opened the Kumul Petroleum National Heart Centre at the Port Moresby General Hospital which had been in operation since July last year.
Hospital chief executive officer Dr Paki Molumi said more than 500 people had been receiving help at the centre.
He said the country’s biggest hospital was ensuring that specialist services were made available to the people.
The centre was set up from the K50 million funding over a period of five years provided by the Kumul Petroleum Holdings Ltd (KPHL) in August, 2019.
“The support was for the infrastructure and equipment as well as training of manpower.
“From doing open heart surgeries on children with the help of visiting doctors from overseas, now PMGH can provide cardiac diagnostics services, catheterisation and operations,” he said.
