THE Private Companies Netball Competition will head into their semifinals next weekend after the completion of their preliminary finals matches last Sunday at the Rita Flynn Netball Courts, Port Moresby.
Teams across all the divisions (division 14 to premier) will be gearing up for the business end of the season, eyeing a grand final berth.
President Kori Toua said teams had picked up in intensity going into the finals resulting in the upset of the day in division five where Hodava Hotel beat the favourites Marsh 21-16 last Sunday. Toua said that going into the finals, there were also some technical issues that the PCNC had to contend with.
“We had two matches which had technical issues, it’s good that we have our judicial committee on the ground to verify some technical matters,”Toua said.
“The game between Lee Partners and BAT (Div 5) was awarded to BAT on technical grounds. They (Lee Partners) had six players on the court, but only four of them had ID cards.
“This is according to the International Netball Federation ruling, you can only start the game with five players.
“The second game affected by technical issues was between Air Niugini three and ABTS (Div 9), with the game being awarded to Air Niugini because ABTS fielded more than three dependents.”
The PCNC proceeds to the semifinals next week, followed by the finals on March 3.
