PRIVATE schools must be registered so that they do not miss out in subsidies and rewards provided by the government, an educationist said.
Nathaniel Selam, an education adviser in Morobe said during the graduation of the 62 students at Lae Christian School that “most private schools do miss out on government benefits like subsidies.”
“School subsidies and teachers’ wages are important components to run the school,” he added.
He told parents and staff of the Bible Church-run Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) now that the government planned to introduce free-education next year, private schools “will definitely miss out and school-aged children who were supposed to be in classes will be greatly affected”.
Deputy headmistress of Omili Primary School Doreen Boas said children must be raised and brought up in a godly manner so that they could be God-fearing leaders with vision to run the affairs of the country when they grew older.
She said that was what was lacking in today’s society.
Principal Mek Glare said they had registered but had not followed through and since Selam had reminded them, they would follow through.
He said the private-public partnership was the way forward and they were prepared to work closely with provincial education authorities to ensure they were integrated into the government’s system of education so that school age children did not miss out,
He said their school had settled 25 years ago but worked in isolation and it was time to expand and “join hands with other stakeholders to enhance and broaden their education capabilities and knowledge”.
